Austin's exclusive curriculum materials are fully aligned with the VCE Specialist Mathematics Study Design, presenting knowledge points, example problems, and solution strategies in a structured, step-by-step manner. Students progress from foundational to advanced modules, building a solid foundation for the VCE exams.
The current VCAA study design runs across four units. Units 1 and 2 build the groundwork — algebra and number, functions, relations and graphs, vectors in the plane, trigonometry, and an introduction to proof and complex numbers. Units 3 and 4 carry the bulk of the assessment: functions and graphs, algebra and complex numbers, calculus including integration techniques and differential equations, vectors in three dimensions, kinematics and dynamics, and probability and statistics with sample means and confidence intervals.
Our teaching sequence follows that structure rather than running parallel to it. Each term maps onto the study design's areas of study, so classroom content lands shortly before or alongside the same topic at school, and the outcome statements a SAC is written against are covered explicitly. Assessment is weighted 1 SAC in Unit 3, 2 SACs in Unit 4 and two end-of-year examinations, one technology-free and one CAS-active, and our practice sets mirror that split from the start of the year.
